Hi Liz,
Thanks for writing to us! It’s great that you’re ready to return to work, but understandable that you have questions about how to approach the salary expectations portion of the job application. You might want to consider doing some research on the companies you’re interested in working for to see if you can gain some insight into what they provide to their employees. Websites like glassdoor.com, Linkedin.com, Indeed.com, Salary.com, Simplyhired.com and Payscale.com may help you identify what kind of compensation they are offering their employees and/or what other similar companies are offering.
I’ve reached out to our career coaches to get further insight into your question, but in the meantime, the following resources might be helpful:
We also offer a Professional Development Micro-Grant program that provides cancer patients and survivors professional development opportunities to build or enhance their skillsets. The application period for 2020 grants is currently open (until November 15th). For more information and to apply: http://www.cancerandcareers.org/en/resource/micro-grants
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at cancerandcareers@cew.org or 646-929-8032.
A coach will be in touch soon!
Kind regards,

In general, I advise my clients to avoid discussing salary until they have a firm offer. From your question, it sounds as if the salary question was part of an online application. If that is the case, I suggest you answer "negotiable."
If you feel compelled to answer with a number, I suggest you go to this site...
https://www.indeed.com/q-Salary-Range-From-jobs.html
...it will help you figure out comparable pay for the type of job for which you are applying in your area.
Hope this helps, and good luck in your job search.
Bud
