Career Change,
Career Management
I am a sole proprietor providing B2C services for over 15 years. I was diagnosed in 2023 and in treatment until 2025. I was able to hang onto some clients during treatment but was unable to feed my pipeline. Combine that with losing a few clients to a poor economy; a few others to technology-delivered solutions; and one client who decided to back out when they learned of my diagnosis, and that means this year has been very slow so far. To get business really flowing again, I would need to focus on SEO of my website, and AI has very much changed that game to the extent I don't think I could DIY it.
I am interested in and excited about keynote speaking (at associations and/or corporate conferences) - my current position does involve using presentation skills, albeit in a different setting. Plus, I would be able to move in that direction and still help my remaining clients, as well as any who reach me via referral and/or website. However, I'm not sure how wise it is to focus on a new direction rather than getting new clients for my current services.
I briefly considered finding a part-time job, but I see few to none that are a good fit.
I'd appreciate any thoughts or resources you have about making decisions on where to put time and money as a sole proprietor.
Thanks for your help.
