Career Change,
Job Search
I am a grateful cancer survivor. Currently, I am looking for a position that will use my background of 20 years in the beauty industry with my passion for helping others. I want to make a difference! My resume is updated, but I am not sure which positions to actually apply for. I am also looking to relocate to the New Jersey area. It's time for a quieter life style. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Julie,
Thanks for writing to us. It sounds like you have great experience, and have taken the right steps by updating your resume and thinking about where you see yourself geographically.
I’ve reached out to our career coaches to get further insight into your question, but in the meantime, the following resources might be helpful:
Also, you may want to look into what beauty companies might have social impact departments. Many are involved with charitable causes. For instance, I know Sephora conducts Classes for Confidence which are free classes for those with cancer or looking to re-enter the workforce. Perhaps you can get involved with something like that?
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at cancerandcareers@cew.org or 646-929-8032.
A coach will be in touch soon!

Career Coach Comment:
Hi Julie,
First, I like your name. :-) And congratulations for being a cancer surviver!
It is tough to tell you exactly what types of jobs you should look for given the limited information you have shared. This said, I suggest that you think about the populations you connect to the most (children, the elderly, disabled people, cancer survivors, etc.) and the skills you enjoy using such as helping people with their image, customer service, giving advice, etc. and start Googling jobs and job titles to see what comes up that is appealing to you.
Also, I suggest looking at different organizations based in New Jersey and their websites to see if what they do interests you, and if they have any jobs that strike you as something you would enjoy doing.
I am sure you know that because you would be making a career change, you will want to develop a network in the industries that interest you. LinkedIn is the easiest and best way to begin doing this by finding people who work in the industry, or for the organizations that you can invite to connect.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Take care,
Julie
