I am a controller and have 15 years experience. But I moved to Missouri to fight my cancer; I also started a cancer foundation while there. I am off disability and have been on unemployment while looking. But I recently moved back to San Francisco to look for work (couldn't find anything where I was living in Missouri). The stress of getting a job before my unemployment ends is raising my blood pressure and I am so worried I will be homeless that I feel sick to my stomach. I am sending my resumes to many recruiters and head hunters as well as searching on my own, but nothing. Is there any encouragement or resources you can help me with? Thanks so much!

Career Coach Comment:
Hi Daphne,
I am so sorry that your stress level is so high right now. You have very marketable skills as a controller with 15 years of experience. Here is what I recommend you do:
Create a target list of any company who has a finance department in San Francisco and keep the list to approximately 25 companies.
Go on LinkedIn and find 2-3 people who do work or have worked at those companies and connect with them. It doesn't matter what their functional area is. Ask them to introduce you to the CFO or VP of Finance or another high level person at the company. And set up an informational or networking meeting.
Go to 2-3 group networking meetings every week and ask people for contacts and don't forget to offer help to them as well.
People usually find jobs through other people.Try this for two weeks and see what your results are. They should be good.
Finally, think of creative ways to earn money until you find a full-time job.
Best wishes!
Julie
