Hi! I'm looking for a job to do after being diagnosed with cancer last June of 2010. I was working two jobs at the time of being diagnosed. I've had some time to be thinking about my future. I am a Mom and have a family. I need to help supplement income for the family as this has been a huge load for my husband. Can you direct me on where I can get started? I am looking into a 2-year program in the medical field but I need to be working as well. Looking for assistance.

Career Coach Comment:
Hi Sue,
It's Julie Jansen, on of the Cancer and Careers coaches. It's a little tough for me to respond to your question without knowing what you have done work-wise in the past o what your skills are. If you can write again and give us more information about this, it would be helpful.
Meanwhile, I would suggest you decide what skills you have that you can use in a job. Whether it is administrative skills, writing, tutoring, fundraising, etc. you definitely can do most things on a part-time basis these days while you go to school. Start scanning the job boards to see what kinds of jobs interest you and then try to reach out to people you know to find professionals who do the kind of work you want to do. Ask them for other contacts so that you can reach out to them for information and to find out about openings.
I hope you write back with a little more info so that I can personalize my answer much more for you.
Good luck!
Julie
