Grants for cancer survivors for master's degree

Career Change

I will be returning to school in the Fall of 2026 for a master's degree in child development with a child life concentration. Are there any grants or scholarships that I can apply for to help fund the cost of the master's program? I am a childhood brain cancer survivor for 7 years and a current cancer patient, as the cancer has recurred and metastasized for the last 18 years. I also have epilepsy due to the location of the tumor.

First, congratulations on taking the step to pursue your master's degree! Depending on your age, you may be eligible to apply for an educational grant or scholarship through a young adult cancer program. I would recommend you look into the following organizations and their offerings:



A few other ideas include:



  • Speaking with someone from the financial aid office at the university as they may be aware of more targeted and specific scholarships and grants for those in similar situations.

  • Explore epilepsy organizations to see if they may also offer scholarships. 

  • Speak with a social worker at your treating hospital to see if they are aware of any local grants or programs that are offering assistance. 

  • Take a look at our Financial Assistance Resources page for additional sources for assistance.
