Melanie Rudolph was working as a fundraiser for St. Tammany Cancer Center when she herself was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic melanoma. For two years she underwent chemotherapy, gamma knife treatments and radiation. She finished her final treatment this past April and is back at work planning the signature St. Tammany Foundation-hosted event called The Gala which raises money to help individuals with cancer get to their treatments, pay for treatments not covered by insurance, and receive food, if needed.

Rudolph talked about how work helped her recovery saying, "I think this has fueled me to continue to do what I do. It is just so important that we continue funding and do everything that we possibly can to hopefully one day find a cure for cancer."
