Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mark Swagerty has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. While waiting for test results and while waiting to start treatment he has said showing up to work has helped provide a distraction from waiting. "It was pretty rough going through it, but I had an amazing support system at home and at work...My work people were amazing with me, and my wife has been very, very, very, very awesome to be there by my side."

He is planning an event with the Sheriff's Office to advocate for men getting check-ups, including testing for prostate cancer. "I just want to bring awareness so people will get checked. It’s a simple blood test."
