Owen Cowzer - April 2026
Irish football player Gary O'Neill revealed this week he was diagnosed with cancer last year. Choosing to remain private about his diagnosis, he has quietly went out on medical leave last October. He underwent 28 rounds of chemotherapy, finishing in January and got the all-clear from his doctors in February. O'Neill is now training to be able to return to his team.
"When I was first diagnosed I made the decision that I didn’t want to go public with it. I didn't want issue any statements...But I’m back now doing a lot of individual training again, this is my job, I want to get back on the pitch...This isn’t going to define me. I’ve won the battle with cancer and now back to my job."
