Jeff Bossert - December 2014
WUIS broadcast an interview with Illinois TV news anchor Dave Benton who recently told viewers that his brain cancer is back. Benton first shared that he had a brain tumor in November 2013, and has been very open about his treatment. He plans to stay at work as long as possible. Benton explains how he is doing now, saying
“'I’ve been fortunate not to have a lot of side effects so far,' he said. 'I sleep a lot the week of treatment (on Tuesdays or Wednesdays every other week.) By that Thursday or Friday, I’m exhausted. I sleep all weekend long, and I kind of bounce back.'"
Benton said that he will live his life as normal as possible, including working for as long as he can.
For many survivors who are working through treatment, it's important to understand how treatment impacts their energy and the way they feel, just as Benton describes above. When you know this, it makes it easier to schedule treatments at times that allow you to recover from them and feel your best when you have to be at work.
