Victoria Brown - November 2010
In this compelling video clip, Morgan Stanley global CFO Ruth Porat, whom Forbes referred to as “the most senior woman on Wall Street,” answer’s Big Think co-founder Victoria Brown’s question “What did you learn from your bout with cancer?” Porat’s answer is informative and inspiring. It also highlights the very issue that Cancer and Careers is dedicated not merely to exploring, but also to supporting — that is, the intersection of work and cancer and how that experience affects both patients and survivors. While Porat stresses the fact that the desire to work during treatment — as well as having the option to do so — is different for everyone, she says, “For me, going to work meant that I was in control of my life. The disease did not define me.” To watch the full clip and read the transcript, click here.
