We know employers and their front-line managers need support in helping an employee balance their cancer treatment and recovery with work. Here are a few more resources to help!
- The Workplace Transitions for People Touched by Cancer program provides companies of all sizes with an innovative, tested, and free resource to support a healthy and productive experience when an employee is facing cancer. The web-enabled toolkit provides managers and human resources staff with actionable guidance that complements existing company policies and procedures. The project is a collaboration between Anthem, Cancer and Careers, Pfizer and the U.S. Business Leadership Network. For more: http://workplacetransitions.org/.
- The Department of Labor (DOL) provides a number of useful tools to help employers and managers navigate the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), including:
- A guide to the FMLA specifically for employers: www.dol.gov/whd/fmla/employerguide.pdf.
- A model certification form to ensure an employer gets the information the DOL determined is necessary in order for an employee to access leave under the FMLA. The form can be found here: www.dol.gov/whd/forms/WH-380-E.pdf?t=2016-02-20. By using this form an employer protects itself from any accidental requests for information that go beyond the requirements of the law. There is also a version of the model form for people requesting time off as a caregiver: www.dol.gov/whd/forms/WH-380-F.pdf.
