I know it’s only July, but at Cancer and Careers, we’ve already started getting into the holiday spirit. For the last couple of weeks, we’ve been feeling particularly festive and generous, and it’s because we’ve had #GivingTuesday on our minds.
You may be wondering, what is #GivingTuesday? It’s a campaign started last year that encourages people to be charitable during the holidays, starting the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. We all know what happens on Black Friday, and Cyber Monday takes those huge sales online. #GivingTuesday focuses attention on the spirit of giving around the holidays and encourages individuals and organizations to find innovative ways to support the causes they care about most.
This year, Cancer and Careers is fortunate to be a beneficiary of QVC’s #GivingTuesday campaign, “Give Joy”, which kicks off on December 3rd. For one entire month, beginning on #GivingTuesday, QVC is hoping that everyone gives a little bit. They will be inviting customers to make donations via QVC.com, the QVC apps, or by phone and QVC will match donations up to $150,000.
#GivingTuesday will allow us to reach more people than ever before. With these donations, we will be able to fund more of our programs, like our free resume review service or our Ask the Experts teleconference series. Simply put, we’ll be able to help our community even more.
And isn’t that what the holiday spirit is all about?
