Cancer Organization Spotlight: The Cancer Support CommunitySave as Favorite
"I remember when my mom was first diagnosed with cancer. This was a totally foreign experience. I didn't know who to turn to or what to do about it. By coming to Cancer Support Community, I found a connection with people - something I really needed. I knew that I could find other resources that would help us too."
- Tilda, long-distance caregiver to her parents
The Cancer Support Community has a remarkably simple, yet incredibly impactful mission.
“To ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community.”
In other words, whether cancer has touched your life, or a loved one’s life, you are not alone. You are part of a community, empowered by answers and uplifted through solidarity. If you’re like Tilda, sometimes your greatest source of strength is your neighbors.
The Cancer Support Community is an international non-profit dedicated to providing support, education and hope to people affected by cancer. Its global network brings the highest quality cancer support to the millions of people touched by cancer. To ensure no one has to face cancer alone, these support services are available through a network of professionally led community-based centers, hospitals, community oncology practices and other non-profits, as well as online.
In July 2009, The Wellness Community and Gilda’s Club Worldwide joined forces to become the Cancer Support Community. By helping to complete the cancer care plan, the Cancer Support Community continues to optimize patient care by providing essential, but often overlooked, services including support groups, counseling, education and healthy lifestyle programs.
