Description: The Cancer Information Service (CIS) is a national network of 19 regional offices supported by the National Cancer Institute, the Federal Government's primary agency for cancer research. Through its toll-free phone service, the CIS provides accurate, up-to-date information on cancer to patients and their families, health professionals, and the general public. In understandable language, the CIS telephone service provides information about all types of cancer, as well as information on state-of-the-art care and the availability of clinical trials. Each CIS office has access to the National Cancer Institute's database that contains current treatment, clinical trials, early detection, and supportive care information. Newly diagnosed patients may want to start by asking for a PDQ cancer treatment printout for their type and stage of cancer as well as a PDQ of relevant clinical trials. The CIS will also send any relevant National Cancer Institute publications to callers free of charge. Toll Free: 800-4CA-NCER TTY: 800-332-8615
